Solar Photovoltaics (PV) panels absorb the sun’s energy throughout the day and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity. Most homes and businesses run on alternating current (AC) electricity, so the DC electricity is then passed through an inverter to convert it to usable AC electricity. At that point, you either use the electricity in your house, sold it to your utility provider or store in your battery for night time or power outage use.
There are 3 different types of PV Systems:
1. Grid Tied System – This type of Solar PV System can only cater to your daytime consumption. A grid-tied system is a low-cost investment and low maintenance cost and you do not need to worry about overloading of power. This is also best for Commercial and Industrial Buildings that consume a high percentage of their electric bill during daytime versus nighttime. Grid-tied systems can also sell/export excess solar energy production to your electric utility company (ie Meralco).
2. Off-Grid System – is a type of PV system that can operate during the daytime, nighttime, and during power outages because of its battery pack that can store solar energy harvested by the solar panels. Off-Grid is best for areas that have a limited supply of electricity. However, owning this type of system also has its disadvantages like it consumed space for the battery, supplies power to selected loads only to prevent overloading, a bit high maintenance cost and lastly, this system cannot export or sell excess solar energy to your electric provider.
3. Hybrid on Grid System- is a type of PV system that is likely a combination of the Grid-Tied and Off-Grid System because this PV system can operate for generally whole day and even power outages because it has a battery pack for power storage just like the Off-Grid System. The hybrid Grid system does not overload just like the Grid Tied System. Meaning it can supply power to all your appliances that are within the size of your inverter. Hybrid systems are best for residential use that consumes more electricity during the night rather than daytime.
It is a type of Electrical converter which converts the energy harvested by the solar panels form the sun to electricity that can be used for your household and businesses replacing the electricity provided by your electric company.
When you install a solar PV system on your property, you are not just saving money on your electricity bills it also protects yourself against rising electricity rates in the future. How much you can save depends on the utilities and the amount of consumption you will use daily but going solar is a smart investment.
Solar power, like other renewable energy resources, has many environmental and health benefits. Going solar reduces greenhouse gas emissions, which contribute to climate change, and also results in fewer air pollutants like sulfur dioxide and particulate matter, which can cause health problems.
Net metering is the system that utilities use to credit solar energy system owners for the electricity produced by their solar panels. With net metering, you only pay for the electricity that you use beyond what your solar panels can generate.
Studies have shown that homes with solar energy systems sell for more than homes without them. In most parts of the country, going solar will actually increase your property value.
The amount of power your Solar PV system can generate is dependent on sunlight. As a result, your solar panels will produce slightly less energy when the weather is cloudy, and no energy at night. However, because of high electricity costs and financial incentives, solar is a smart decision for long term investment and SAVINGS!!!
Yes, the client will still receive a monthly electric bill because electric bill will still vary depending on the Type, Size of the Solar PV System the client will acquire. Another thing to consider is the weather because this will greatly influence the solar energy that your system will harvest from the sun.
This will depend on the type of system the client will acquire.
For Grid Tied – No this will not work during power outages.
For Hybrid On-Grid – Yes this will work not only during power outages but also at night because of the battery pack.
For Off-Grid Tied – Yes this may still work but on a limited load only.
To know what type and size of Solar PV System best fit your house or business, you may provide us your average monthly consumption in KWH for us to provide you with the best type and size of the system to get. Prices may vary in different areas.
